It’s Transgender Awareness Week! We’re celebrating with one of the first female Eagle Scouts

The week before Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20, people and organizations around the country participate in Transgender Awareness Week to help raise the visibility of transgender people and address issues members of the community face.

Beatrix Jackman, a 19-year-old trans woman attending the University of Texas at Austin, is one of the first members of the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts from the state. Jackman was surprised by her scout leader, Charles Mead, when he presented her with her Eagle Scout award and regalia in front of local media at her home.

โ€œI donโ€™t even know what to say, Iโ€™m smiling so much that my mask fell off,โ€ Jackman said while receiving them. โ€œThank you to everybody who has helped me along this path.โ€
